Rwanda
Most people visit Rwanda to see gorillas, and then combine it with another country to include a big game viewing area. Rwanda offers exceptional up close gorilla viewing, which comes with a big price tag, but arguably it's the best country in Africa for gorilla trekking and offers very luxurious accommodation options. There is more to Rwanda than just gorillas though with some more typical big game viewing available too.
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is Rwanda's gorilla trekking area. Accomodation levels are very high standard and trekking is generally less strenuous than neighbouring Uganda.
Akagera National Park
Akagera is a savannah area in the east along the border with Tanzania. After successful reintroduction efforts it is now able to offer big five game viewing.
Nyungwe Forest National Park
Nyungwe is a UNESCO world Heritage Site and hosts one of Africa's most ancient and biodiverse rainforests. The headline activities here are chimpanzee and colobus monkey treks. There is a thrilling canopy walkway and a 1.8km zipline too, one of Africa's longest.
