Tanzania

Kenya’s most popular park is the Serengeti, famous for the Great Migration in particular. Similar to Kenya though, Tanzania has many smaller safari parks, which are less busy than the Serengeti and offer more than just the Great Migration. Also home to the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro, and the island of Zanzibar, which is a popular add on.

Serengeti

Kenya's most famous big five game viewing area, home to the great migration, dense predator populations and vast savannah landscapes. The Northern Serengeti is home to the dramatic river crossings  in July to October and the southern Serengeti is where the herds have their calving season in January to March. Hot air balloon safaris and visits to Maasai communities are also on offer.

Ngorongoro Crater

Adjacent to the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact, unflooded volcanic caldera. This UNESCO World Heritage site forms a spectacular natural amphitheatre, which acts as a have for big game. The crater is one of the best places in Africa to spot all of the big five in one day, and has one of the densest lion populations in the world. The downside is that due to it's relatively compact size, it can get very busy with safari vehicles,

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire is best known for its massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and an intimate "Old Africa" safari experience. Unlike many of Tanzania's northern parks, walking safaris and night drives are permitted in Tarangire.

Lake Manyara National Park

Comprising five distinct ecosystems in a compact area, Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania's ecologically diverse gems. Highlights include dense game concentrations & primate troops, tree climbing lions, massive flocks of flamingos on the lake and a jungle canopy walkway.

Ruaha National Park

Renowned for its raw, untamed wilderness and incredibly high concentration of predators, including endangered wild dogs. Ruaha offers a low crowd alternative to the busier northern parks.

Selous Game Reserve & Nyerere National Park

Bigger than Switzerland, Selous & Nyerere together make up Africa's largest protected wildlife area, and offers a more exclusive experience away from heavy tourist crowds. Highlights include boat safaris along the Rufiji River and playing host to one of the continent's largest population of wild dogs.

Mahale Mountains National Park

The primary draw of Mahale is world-class chimpanzee trekking in one of Africa's most untouched wildernesses. As well as up close viewing of habituated chimpanzees,  Mahahale's rainforest is also home to eight other primate species, including striking black-and-white colobus, red colobus, red-tailed monkeys, and yellow baboons. Mahale sits alongside the western shores of Lake Tanganyika, the world's longest lake, where you can enjoy boat cruises, kayaking and snorkelling with cichlids.
